AIR ROASTed COFFEE SINCE AUGUST, 2021
We started roasting coffee on a stove top in the Winter of 2019 for friends and family. It was a tedious, labor-intensive, time-consuming, messy process, but we did it for, well, for the love of great coffee! We fell in love with the complex flavor of freshly roasted coffee, and were fascinated by the roasting process. In August, 2021, we’re taking our passion for great coffee to the next level with the Air Roasting process!
Why Air Roasting?
The air roasting process roasts the beans on a fluid bed of hot air instead of the traditional method of beans tumbling in a heated steel drum. Air roasting allows the chaff (outer layer of the coffee bean) to be removed while the beans are roasting. With the traditional drum method the chaff waste material continues to burn in the drum while the beans are roasted, exposing them to carcinogens and leaving a harsh, bitter taste. Air roasters are also electric and do not emit carbon into the atmosphere, as opposed to gas-powered drum roasters.
Along with the health and environmental benefits of air roasting, the most obvious change will be the one that you notice in your cup!
